Legend has it that a Manila galleon—one of the vessels that once connected Asia with New Spain—was shipwrecked off the coast of Zihuatanejo. Fine silks and other precious goods washed ashore.

From this story came the name that has endured to this day for one of Mexico’s most remarkable coastal destinations: Playa La Ropa, in the heart of Zihuatanejo.
